How do I introduce my guinea pigs to the snuffle mat?

Start by sprinkling their favourite snacks on top of the fleece strips so it’s easy to find. Once they understand there’s treasure to discover, you can tuck pellets, herbs, or veggies deeper in.

How long should I leave the mat in the cage?

Snuffle mats are designed for supervised snacktime, not all-day use. Pop it in for foraging play, then remove it once the treats are gone to prevent fleece chewing.

What foods work best?

Pellets, pea flakes, coriander stalks, fresh herbs, small veggie pieces, or dried roots all work brilliantly. Always stick to safe guinea pig or rabbit foods.

What if my guinea pig doesn’t seem interested?

Some piggies take a little time to learn. Try placing a baby carrot or pea flakes partly visible on top, and gently encourage them to “look.” Most quickly catch on and enjoy the game.

Can rabbits use it too?

How do I clean the snuffle mat?

Shake out crumbs and hay, then wash it in a horse bag on a gentle 30°C cycle with your other guinea pig bedding. Air dry before the next use.

Can I put it in the tumble dryer?

No—we recommend air drying only. Heat from tumble dryers can damage the fleece and reduce its lifespan.

How often should I wash it?

It depends on how often you use it. For daily use, a quick shake-out after each session and a proper wash once a week keeps it fresh.

Will the fleece strips come loose in the wash?

No—the fleece strips are securely sewn to the base. With proper care, the mat will withstand regular washing without fraying or unravelling.

Does it trap fur or hay in the machine?

Washing it inside a horse bag prevents loose hair from clogging your washing machine and makes clean-up much easier.
