How It All Began

Hi! I’m Tracy, the spooky soul behind Furry and Frightful — a handmade haunt for guinea pigs who deserve a little magic in their everyday snuggles.

This story started the way many good ones do: with a curious kid, a few fluffy companions, and a whole lot of Halloween spirit.

My daughter — an autistic Halloween enthusiast through and through — fell head over paws in love with our first guinea pigs.

Naturally, we went hunting for creepy-cute beds and tunnels to match her love of all things spooky… but there was nothing out there that felt just right.

From Wonky Stitches to Spooky Soft Perfection

So I decided to make them myself. As an autistic maker, I threw myself into learning to sew — fueled by hyperfocus, attention to detail, and a deep love for creature comforts.

One piggy bed turned into a snuggle sack, then a cozy tunnel, and before long… a full-blown spooky-soft collection began to take shape.

But trust me — it didn’t all happen overnight. I broke more sewing needles than I can count. My early attempts were frankly monstrous (and not in the fun way).

My own guinea pigs had to suffer through the indignity of lumpy beds and wonky seams while I stitched, ripped, and learned.

Over time, I refined every pattern. Tested every stitch. Perfected the balance of structure, softness, and sensory joy. And with every cozy success, the vision for Furry and Frightful grew clearer.

Today, everything you see in the shop is still handmade by me, right here in my home workshop — with the occasional squeak of feedback from our resident piggy product testers, Luna and Poppy.

Furry and Frightful was stitched together with love, neurodivergent passion, and a flair for the whimsically weird. Our mission? To bring gothic-glam, Halloween-inspired joy to guinea pigs (and their humans!) who like things a little quirky, a little cozy, and a lot haunted.

Every coven needs its familiars, and mine came in the form of two squishy-nosed, snack-demanding souls: Luna and Poppy.

These two boys were adopted as a bonded pair from the wonderful team at Danaher Animal Home in Essex. Already four years old when they arrived, they came to me as a distinguished (and delightfully fussy) elder pair, ready to spend their golden years in comfort—and surrounded by fleece.

Luna took a little while to settle in, but now he’s the most vocal and sociable of the two. He’ll squeak very loudly if he hasn’t had a human visit in a while—we can hear his dramatic calls from other rooms!

That’s how we know it’s time to drop everything and go give him some attention (or at least a snack offering). He’s a bold little soul, but still not a fan of being stroked—how very dare you.

As for who’s in charge? That’s still a mystery. They seem to take turns with dominance, making them a rare and magical thing: an equal pairing. The perfect spooky-soft duo to help guide the Furry and Frightful shop from the shadows.
